Description of Research Expertise

Jay Dorsey, MD, PhD has been continuously funded by the NIH for the past decade. He has expertise in genomics, precision medicine, circulating tumor material/liquid biopsy, molecular diagnostics, cancer biomarkers, nanoparticle therapeutics, preclinical tumor models, and clinical trials. His lab focuses on translational-facing research that explores areas of brain tumor biology, biomarkers of resistance/sensitivity to radiation and chemotherapies and identification of predictive/prognostic single-cell biomarkers of solid tumors, including GBM, lung and melanoma. He is Co-Leader of the Abramson Cancer Center's RadOnc Translational Center of Excellence.

Dr. Dorsey also serves as a standing member of the K99/R00 transition to independence NIH study section and is the PI and Director of the DEI-focused (NIH R25-funded undergraduate research pipeline program) SUPERS@PENN program which seeks to introduce the next generation of biomedical scientists to undergraduate research in oncology/medical physics/bioengineering/radiology/radiation biology.

He has published in journals such as Cancer Research, Cell, Nature Communications, Nature Cancer, ACS Nano, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys., and Molecular Cancer Research.

His work has been funded by ASCO, RSNA, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, and the National Institutes of Health.

Description of Clinical Expertise

Jay Dorsey, MD, PhD is a University of Pennsylvania/Penn Medicine-trained Radiation Oncologist, physician, and scientist at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and Smilow Center for Translational Research. He is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has clinical expertise in treating primary and metastatic (lung, breast, skin, GI) tumors of the central nervous system. He is ABR board-certified in Radiation Oncology and trained and certified in Gamma Knife stereotactic precision radiosurgery.

His medical training and experience include an internship in Internal Medicine, ABR-sponsored Holman Research Pathway residency in Radiation Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
