Service Centers

Biostatistics Analysis Center (BAC)

The Biostatistics Analysis Center (BAC) provides biostatistical and epidemiological consulting services to the University of Pennsylvania Health System research community.  The BAC is staffed by professionally trained biostatisticians, biostatistical programmers, cartographers and GIS experts, data managers, and data entry staff.

The BAC is organized into three operational units, as described below.  Services provided by any of these units may stand alone or complement related services.

  • Biostatistics Analysis Unit (BAU)
Provides data analysis and management services for research in the areas of clinical trials, genomics, large prescription and diagnostic databases, and observational epidemiological studies.

  • Cartographic Modeling Lab (CML)
Specializes in spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology.

  • Data Management Unit (DMU)
Provides comprehensive and customized data management services for research studies.

Clinical Research Computing Unit (CRCU)

The CRCU provides a full range of clinical data management and research computing services essential for the conduct of clinical research projects. Support is provided to single-site studies, as well as to multicenter clinical trials for which the CRCU is equipped to serve as data coordinating center. CRCU staff design study documents (protocol, manual of procedures, case report forms), develop remote data capture systems with built-in quality checks and reporting features that are maintained in a secure environment, provide data entry and data cleaning services, as well as project management services, including support with regulatory compliance requirements and site-related activities.
