Office of Diversity and Community Outreach

About Us

PENN Med’s focus on better performance at attracting and retaining a faculty and work force that reflects the increasing diversity of our nation, our world, and the communities in which we live evolved into the creation of this office in August of 2005.

We are committed to forging authentic partnerships with community organizations composed of our West Philadelphia neighbors. Listed below are some of the community initiatives we've been part of from then to now.

  • Provost’s Summer Mentorship Program
  • Mantua Health Fair
  • First District Health Commission
  • College for Kids
  • FMC Health and Safety Fair
  • Sayre High School
  • MLK Day of Service 2006 and 2007
  • BLHO Regional Conference (February 3,2007)

Our vested interest in the development of our youth led us to seek out new ways to engage them in thought provoking activities. The Office of Diversity and Community Outreach (ODCO) supports the Provost’s Summer Mentorship Program (SMP) which is entering its second year as well as the Educational Neuro-Pipeline Program. These new initiatives to encourage diversity and community outreach will strengthen two key areas that are critical to the successful implementation of the vision for PENN Medicine.
