Immune Monitoring and Diagnostics

Until the field is able to successfully achieve immunological tolerance so that immunosuppression is not needed, monitoring for immunological rejection of foreign organs and cells will be paramount for preserving long term survival of transplanted organs. Fortunately, there are a variety of molecular diagnostics that allow early detection of injury to a transplanted organ by detection transplant injury markers.  These include donor specific cell free DNA and cell type specific molecules that may be released into the circulation when there is graft injury. This may offer prevention of significant graft injury through early detection.
