Orphan Disease Center
The Orphan Disease Center (ODC) was established in 2011 with a generous gift from philanthropist and Wharton graduate, George A. Weiss. The Orphan Drug Act of 1983 defines a rare disease as a condition that affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States. The ODC, which is the first of its kind, was created to facilitate translational research and therapy development to address the prevalence of certain orphan diseases that affect a marginalized population of individuals internationally.
