Decision Tree

To determine whether or not IDS should be involved with a trial, the following 4 questions need to be answered for each medication being used in the trial:

  1. Will the medication be provided by the sponsor?
  2. Is the medication commercially available?
  3. Are accountability logs required by the sponsor?
  4. Will there be a matching placebo?

If, for all medications, the answer to question number 2 is Yes, and No for questions 1,3 & 4, then IDS does not need to be involved with the trial. Those medications can be managed/dispensed by the hospital pharmacy.

For all other trials that do not fit into the above scenario, IDS must be involved.
