Dr. Jing Guo, NGG 2013 alumna, wins NAGS Award

Dr. Guo is the recipient of the 2013-2014 Doctoral Dissertation Award in Health Sciences from the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS). Each year NAGS recognizes an outstanding dissertation that has been produced by a Ph.D. candidate at one of its member institutions. There can be only one nominee from each institution, and nominees must have received the doctoral degree within five years preceding the year of competition. The award is presented at the annual meeting and Dr. Guo will attend as a guest of the Association in Toronto on April 25th. In announcing the award, Dr. Carol L. Beck, Assistant Dean, Jefferson Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Chair, NAGS Doctoral Dissertation Award wrote, "Your dissertation is outstanding in that not only is it elegant science and well-written, but it also represents a significant advance in our understanding of neurodegenerative disease." Dr. Guo completed her dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Virginia M.-Y. Lee, John H. Ware Professor in Alzheimer's Research and Director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research. Dr. Lee said, "Jing has done an outstanding job in a completely uncharted area breaking new grounds in providing novel insights on the mechanism of progression as well as clinical diversities in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease." Dr. Guo was also the recipient of the 2013 Flexner Award, for the Best Neuroscience Dissertation, given annually by the Mahoney Institute for Neurosciences. She is now a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, Perelman School of Medicine.
