Principal Investigator

Sameed Khatana, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine and a physician at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Penn Cardiovascular Outcomes, Quality, and Evaluative Research (CAVOQER) Center. Dr. Khatana’s research interests include understanding the impact of socioeconomic and environmental factors on cardiovascular health and health disparities as well as quantitative evaluation of the health impact of public policies.

Statistical Analyst

Lin graduated from University of Missouri-Rolla with a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics with statistics emphasis, Lin Yang joined Perelman School of Medicine at Penn as a statistical analyst in March 2008, and has been working with the Khatana team since 2020.  She has 10+ years of experience of data management on large administrative healthcare datasets such as Medicare/Medicaid claims data. Her experience of statistical analysis is mainly on statistical modeling and reporting using SAS & STATA statistical software.

Kaitlyn Shultz, MS

Kaitlyn Shultz, MS

Statistical Analyst

Kaitlyn is a Statistical Analyst with the Khatana lab. She works on creating analytical data files and applying statistical methods, including survival analysis, propensity score matching,  difference-in-difference analysis,  and data mining techniques. She has been working on Medicare projects understanding how physicians’ specialties impact nursing home care and on cardiovascular projects understanding economic impacts on care and racial disparity in care . Kaitlyn has extensive programming experience in SAS and intermediate experience in R. She received her MS degree from the West Chester University.

Jingyi Wu, MSPH

Statistical Analyst

Jingyi is a Statistical Analyst with the Khatana team. She works on creating analytical data files and applying statistical methods, including Propensity Score Matching and Difference-in-Difference analysis. She has been working on VA projects understanding health service utilization and outcome among homeless veterans. Jingyi has extensive programming experience in SAS, Stata, and R. She received her MSPH degree from the Johns Hopkins University. 

Maxwell Salvatore, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow

Max is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Departments of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics and Genetics and a member of the Khatana team. His postdoctoral work focuses on hypothesis generation and risk prediction using electronic health record-linked biobank data with applications to GLP-1 receptor agonists. He received a PhD in Epidemiologic Science from the University of Michigan where his dissertation focused on addressing issues of selection bias and missing data in electronic health record-linked biobanks.

Mackenzie Bolas

Research Project Manager

Mackenzie is a Research Project Manager with the Khatana team. She works on managing project resources, disseminating research, and writing. She has previously worked with the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, where she focused on policy dissemination. Mackenzie is pursing a Masters degree in Urban Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
