About PennMicro
PennMicro is a microsurgical training course developed by Suhail Kanchwala, MD and Elizabeth Malphrus, MD, MPP.
Dr. Suhail Kanchwala is Associated Professor and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Stanford followed by medical school, general surgery residency, and plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a microsurgery fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has published extensively on advanced techniques in breast microsurgery. He is a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery.
Dr. Elizabeth Malphrus is an integrated plastic surgery resident at Penn. She attended Columbia University for her bachelor’s, Georgetown University for her master’s in public policy, and George Washington University for her MD. Prior to medical school, she worked in health policy, including serving as the Study Director for a National Academies consensus study on measurement in health care, and working in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy under the Obama Administration. Her professional interests include reconstructive microsurgery, surgical education, and women’s health.
