This paper identifies chromosomal bouquet as the earliest asymmetry in the Oocyte that leads to the later definition of the body axis.

Farewell and Best Fishes to Elliott Abrams

Congratulations to former lab member Eliott Abrams for securing an Assistant Professorship of Biology at SUNY Purchase. While in our lab, Eliott helped perform a maternal-effect mutagenesis screen in zebrafish and identified two important mutant classes that disrupt the cleavage stage of development. He published his work on one of these, the brambleberry protein, in Cell in 2012. Eliott was a fixture in the lab for 5 years and will be sorely missed.

Still University in Arizona. Lee has been with our lab for seven years now working on maternal effect mutants affecting the germ line and dorsal organizer. We wish him the best of luck!

The connection between Dorsal-Ventral and Anterior-Posterior patterning in Zfish is unraveled in the latest article by Megumi Hashiguchi published this March in Development! Her data reveals that the temporal progression of DV patterning is directly coordinated with AP patterning, and that this patterning is coordinated by interplay between the BMP and FGF/MAPK pathways.

Today we bid a sad farewell to our talented post-doc Megumi Hashiguchi. She will be joining the Adam Antebi Lab at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing. Megumi has been with our lab for four years now, and has become a beloved member of our lab family. We wish her the best of luck!
