Dr. Jansen is a Trauma Surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He trained in the UK, Canada, and South Africa. Prior to moving to the United States in 2017, he was a consultant surgeon and intensivist in Aberdeen and London. Dr. Jansen also served in the British Army, with Airborne Forces, and was awarded a Queen’s Commendation for his service in Afghanistan. Dr. Jansen’s principal research interest is clinical trials, with a focus on Bayesian designs. He directs UAB’s Center for Injury Science, and its Clinical Trials Unit. He has particular interests in trauma resuscitation and traumatic brain injury. He is the principal investigator of several clinical trials funded by the National Institute of Health Research, the Department of Defense, and industry. Outside of work, Dr. Jansen is an avid skydiver.
