51st Eugene P. Pendergrass Lecturer

We are pleased to welcome Janie Lee, MD, MSc as our 51st Pendergrass Lecturer.

Dr. Janie Lee is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.

Dr. Janie Lee will present the 51st Pendergrass Lecture

Dr. Lee completed medical school and diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and concurrent fellowships in breast imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital and in cancer outcomes research at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.  She earned her master’s in health policy and management at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Lee aims to advance women’s health through a combination of clinical, research, and educational efforts. Her contributions at the University of Washington include service as Breast Imaging Section Chief.  She is currently Director of the Northwest Screening and Cancer Outcomes Research Enterprise (NW-SCORE) and a member of the UW Women in Medicine and Science Committee. Nationally, Dr, Lee has served as faculty for the American College of Radiology Education Center and the Radiological Society of North America’s Clinical Trials Methodology Workshop.  She is a past Chair of the RSNA Research Development Committee, which is responsible for developing and implementing programs to promote high quality research through the radiologic community.  Dr. Lee has been recognized as a Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging and as a Distinguished Investigator by the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research.

Dr. Lee’s research focuses on integrating data about patient risk factors, cancer biology, and imaging performance to improve how we diagnose new breast cancers or recurrences in survivors. She is currently a Project Lead to improve risk-based surveillance imaging after breast cancer treatment in a Program Project grant funded by the National Cancer Institute with the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium, a national network of imaging registries of which includes NW-SCORE.  She is also the UW site Principal Investigator for the Pragmatic Randomized Trial of Artificial Intelligence for Screening Mammography (PRISM) study funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the first major multi-site randomized clinical trial of Artificial Intelligence for breast cancer screening in the United States.
