Fellows train at five uniquely different hospitals, all located in downtown Philadelphia

 Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania 

  • Over 72,000 emergency department visits per year 

  • Major tertiary care center for the Philadelphia region. 

  • Fellows will encounter complex cardiac, cancer, and transplant patients with a high level of acuity. 

  • Eight cart-based ultrasound machines, including Mindray M-9s, GE Venue, Sonosite 

 

Penn Presbyterian Medical Center 

  • Home to the University’s Level I Trauma Center

  • Over 51,000 emergency department visits per year 

  • Fellows will see a large volume of high-acuity patients and bread-and-butter cases common to the community setting. 

  • Roughly 13,000 visits for injuries and complex trauma annually

  • Six cart-based ultrasound machines, including Mindray M-9s, Sonosite PX, and SEII units

Pennsylvania Hospital

  • The nation’s first hospital,  founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond

  • Over 50,000 emergency department visits per year

  • At this community hospital, fellows will encounter a diverse milieu of critically ill patients and bread-and-butter cases

  • Fellows have access to a Mindray TE7 and Sonosite PX at Pennsylvania Hospital

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania-Cedar Avenue

  • A remote facility of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, located in West Philadelphia
  • Over 37,000 emergency department visits per year
  • Two Mindray M-9 Ultrasound machines

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

  • Premier children's hospital located next to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
  • Over 125,000 emergency department visits per year
  • Home to pediatric emergency medicine ultrasound fellowship
  • Fellows will scan with pediatric emergency medicine ultrasound faculty
