MODX Glossary
Container (Parent): Used to categorize children pages. Is NOT a web page, but a “container” to the “children” web pages that are in this category.
Document: the basic, and perhaps most common, type of resource that your site will contain.
Files: uploaded assets that can be added onto your website (images, PDF’s, etc.)
Global Element: an element of your site that shows up on every page. Most common global elements include the header and footer.
Menu Title: the name that you wish the current resource to be within the navigation of your site. If this is not set, the "Title" will be used in the navigation by default. A common use of this field would be to override ride a lengthy title to something more succinct in the navigation.
MODX: a free and open source, web-based content management system (CMS) for publishing content on the world wide web.
Publisher Dashboard: the initial user interface of your site after logging in make edits; contains information that is useful to you as a publisher
Resource Alias: the URL of the page; ex) www.med.upenn.edu/pmacswebteam/modx-glossary.html
Resources: different types of pages that can be used in order to create your site. They include documents, weblinks, static resource, and symlinks.
Rich-Text Editor: the interface for editing formatted or styled text, otherwise known as rich text, which is presented within a "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" (WYSIWYG) editing area.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.
Static Resource: a type of resource, specifically in your navigation, that is a direct link to a PDF uploaded onto your site.
Symlink: a type of resource that pulls identical content from a pre-existing resource.
Template Variables (TVs): are special features that each template (Home, Sub, Personnel, Accordion) has to offer. There are different Template Variables for each template, but many of them are the same.
Weblink: a type of resource, specifically in your navigation, that links to an external website.
