Subject: Important Update: NLRB Election Details
Dear Postdocs and Research Associates,
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has announced its decision regarding the details for a democratic, secret ballot election for postdocs and research associates to vote on whether or not they want to unionize with The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW).
- The secret-ballot election will take place on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 10:00am to 7:00pm. The election will take place in the Bodek Lounge in Houston Hall, located at 3417 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA. All ballots must be cast in-person. An agent from the NLRB will oversee the election process.
- All postdoctoral researchers and research associates who provide services to the University of Pennsylvania, including Postdoctoral Researchers, Postdoctoral Fellows, NRSA Postdoctoral Fellows, and Research Associates during the payroll period ending May 31, 2025 are eligible to vote. This includes foreign nationals who meet the above criteria.
These important election details, as well as more information about what to expect when you go to vote, can be found here: https://facts4pennpostdocs.org/election-details/
The result of this election is determined by the simple majority (50% +1) of those who vote, so we encourage everyone who is eligible to vote to ensure your voice is heard. Not voting means you would be allowing others to make this important decision for you. We hope you will carefully consider these facts about unionization so you can make a fully informed decision when you go to vote. Thank you.
