Recent Updates

Upcoming Changes to Postdoc Stipends and Benefits (Effective July 1, 2023)

Please see the message here from Dr. Dawn Bonnell, Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR): effective July 1, 2023, the University will adopt new minimum stipend levels and improved benefits packages for all postdoctoral researchers and fellows.  The postdoc community was notified of this announcement on Monday, April 3, 2023.

The OVPR and the University have generously offered to partner with PSOM to cover the increased costs for at least 12 months.

In addition, as you can see here, new benefits will have an EB rate of 21%, a rate which reflects approximately equivalent costs for benefits that labs/programs were previously paying directly (thus, should not be a new financial burden).

Our PSOM Finance team will work with your departments to operationalize these changes, with more details to follow.

Thank you,

Jon and Maja

Jon Epstein, MD, Executive Vice Dean and Chief Scientific Officer
Maja Bucan, PhD, Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Research Training and Director of Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs

New Policy for Postdoctoral Trainees

During the last academic year, the Penn community engaged in an examination of the Policy for Postdoctoral Trainees to determine if changes were warranted. One motivating factor was the lack of a grievance process for the Postdocs. The new policy was posted in the Almanac on June 21, 2022 (https://almanac.upenn.edu/articles/of-record-policy-for-postdoctoral-trainees-at-the-university-of-pennsylvania). Please, review the new policy and the memo from Dawn Bonnell, Senior Vice Provost for Research outlining major changes. If you need more information, please contact Ana-Rita Mayol, BPP Administrative Director at Ana-Rita.Mayol@pennmedicine.upenn.edu or postdoc@pennmedicine.upenn.edu.
