Events

The UPenn Radiology Interest Group (RIG) aims to inspire and engage students in the field of radiology by providing opportunities to explore the specialty through interactive events, faculty-led discussions, and hands-on experiences. Through these initiatives, RIG seeks to foster curiosity, mentorship, and a deeper understanding of the diverse career paths within radiology.

Events

Each November, the Radiology Interest Group hosts the annual Radiology Research Symposium, an event that highlights the diverse research efforts of Penn medical students. The symposium provides a platform for students to present their work in imaging sciences, with many projects emerging from the Radiology Summer Research Scholars Program. This event not only showcases innovation in radiology but also fosters mentorship, collaboration, and early engagement in academic medicine.

In early December, the Radiology Interest Group hosts a Faculty Roundtable, bringing together Penn radiology faculty from a variety of subspecialties. This interactive Q&A session gives students the opportunity to learn more about career paths in radiology, ask questions about training and research, and gain insights from leaders in the field. The roundtable is designed to be an open and welcoming forum for students at all stages of medical school who are curious about radiology.

Throughout the year, the Radiology Interest Group hosts Lunch Talks, where Penn radiology faculty share short, engaging presentations on a wide range of topics. These sessions give students the chance to learn about exciting cases, new imaging techniques, and career insights in a relaxed and informal setting. Lunch Talks are a great way for students to connect with faculty while expanding their understanding of radiology beyond the classroom.

New this year, the Radiology Interest Group is launching Fireside Chats, an interactive series where medical students can submit interesting imaging cases they encounter during rotations or electives. Selected cases will be presented in an informal session where radiology faculty and the submitting student review the images, highlight key findings, and discuss clinical relevance. This event is designed to give students a chance to actively engage with imaging, sharpen their presentation skills, and learn directly from faculty experts.
