Description of Research Expertise
Anne Rentoumis Cappola, M.D., Sc.M. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology Diabetes, and Metabolism, Assistant Director of the Type 2 Diabetes Unit of the Institute of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism (IDOM), Associate Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology (CCEB), and a Fellow in the Institute on Aging. She has also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.Dr. Cappola's research focuses on the hormonal alterations that occur with aging and the clinical impact of these changes, particularly in older women. She is funded by the National Institute on Aging. Current projects include studies of trajectories of DHEAS and IGF-1 in older men and women, the role of androgens in the health of older women, the combined effects of endocrine, inflammatory, and nutritional factors as risk factors for the frailty syndrome; the metabolic changes in men and women who sustain a hip fracture; and the association between subclinical thyroid dysfunction and clinical outcomes in older men and women.
