clinical students
- Please describe your activities while abroad (eg, seeing
patients, clinical research, public health project, etc.):
inpatient medicine rotation (much less rigorous than here,
however). i tagged along with a 4-person 4th year med student
team there, but i didn't have to take the end-of-rotation
exam that they did.
- Please describe the range of activities available,
in addition to yours:
not sure-- there were a variety of clinical electives available,
i know
- Would you recommend this institution to other Penn
medical students? Why?
yes-- flexible hours, interesting rounds, optional conferences
allowed me to make my own schedule. patient population is
very different from ours. other medical students and professors
speak english and are friendly.
- What did you not like?
inability to communicate with patients (they speak cantonese
for the most part).
- Is there an application process for this institution?
How does one arrange a visit? Are there important dates
to know about?
There is an application which i attained through donald
silberberg of international medical programs at penn (898-0283).
the hospital could probably also email it to you directly.
it says it must be submitted one year in advance, but i
didn't get it until 7 months prior to my trip, and it was
fine.
- What costs were associated with the trip, other than
transportation. Please include institutional fees, housing
costs, food, etc.:
they would have provided housing across the street
with other med students (small single rooms), but i had
other accomodations planned. i paid for my own food.
