- Please describe your activities while abroad (eg, seeing
patients, clinical research, public health project, etc.):
The coursework consisted of 4 hours per day of one-on-one
language instruction with supplementary cultural activities,
2 hours of grammar and 2 of conversation.

in addition to yours:
- Would you recommend this institution to other Penn
medical students? Why?
If you are considering any clinical work in South America
and need to learn Spanish, I cannot recommend this program
highly enough. It is very affordable, you are placed with
a local family, and the teachers are wonderful.
- What did you not like?
Expensive, difficult to arrange as this is not a rotation
organized for US med students. Although the activities are
primarily observational, this is a resident-level style
of program so the more you know about ophtho the more you
will get out of it.

transportation. Please include institutional fees, housing

The cost came out to about $550 US for 3 weeks of the
Spanish courses (4 hours per day) which included full room
and board with a local family. You can go for any length
of time you choose.
