Opportunities
appropriate for:
Clinical students
- Please describe your activities while abroad (eg, seeing
patients, clinical research, public health project, etc.):
Following the neuroradiologists in the radiology department.
Watching interventional procedures.
- Please describe the range of activities available,
in addition to yours:
Spent time at Great Ormond Street hospital (one of the best
peds hospitals in Europe), also at a center for epilepsy.
- Would you recommend this institution to other Penn
medical students? Why?
Yes -- it was an excellent radiology experience at a well-known
hospital. The radiologists were all very nice and supportive
of my presence. As a teaching hospital, many conferences/seminars
available.
- What did you not like?
Not used to having foreign students -- I basically bullied
my way in.
- Is there an application process for this institution?
How does one arrange a visit? Are there important dates
to know about?
Not really. I basically chose the hospital based on proximity
to where I had free living
arrangements and then called their neurorads dept. Took
me forever to find the right people to talk to and get permission.
Will probably be a similarly difficult process
to do this rotation again (but worth it, I think). On the
plus side, you can go pretty much whenever you want and
can do whatever you want while you're there.
- What costs were associated with the trip, other than
transportation. Please include institutional fees, housing
costs, food, etc.:
No other costs. Hospital had a reasonably priced cafeteria.
- Did you receive funding for this trip? If so, from
whom and for how much? Please provide important information,
such as contacts, application procedure, and due dates:
No funding. Paid for plane ticket, stayed with friend,
ate cheap.
- Would you agree to be contacted by other students interested
in this site? If so, please give your name and contact information:
