- Please describe your activities while abroad (eg, seeing
patients, clinical research, public health project, etc.):
Clinical duties involve pt H+Ps and review with the attending
on various services in one of several hospitals. I also
had the oppoortunity to work on a joint clinical research
project with the Ophtho and Geriatric Depts. which resulted
in some interesting, potentially publishable, data. Also
visit nursing homes (very infomative!!), rehab facilities,
GPs in the rural areas.
- Please describe the range of activities available,
in addition to yours:
The staff are very accomdating. Anything you really want
to do can be arranged.
- Would you recommend this institution to other Penn
medical students? Why?
Fully funded scholarship in a well-organized setting with
plenty to do clinically. Excellent intro to different HC
system and styles of practice. Great place to learn how
to hone your PE skills as they are not nearly as dependent
on diagnostic tests. Edinburgh is beautiful and has plenty
to offer an enterprising student of life. Lots of free time.
Housing for me was very nice (not so for others).
- What did you not like?
- Is there an application process for this institution?
How does one arrange a visit? Are there important dates
to know about?
Application and info available from Sheila P. Apply in fall
of prior year.
- What costs were associated with the trip, other than
transportation. Please include institutional fees, housing
costs, food, etc.:
Costs covered fairly easily by $2,500 scholarship.
Housing is pre-arranged via Edinburgh University. Travel
and food are up to you to arrange. Public transport is available,
you do not need a car.
- Did you receive funding for this trip? If so, from
whom and for how much? Please provide important information,
such as contacts, application procedure, and due dates:
See above.
- Would you agree to be contacted by other students interested
in this site? If so, please give your name and contact information:
