Our Services


Short Term Counseling

  • To provide confidential, short-term counseling and assistance, to Eligible Employees who are referred to the EAP or those who voluntarily seek assistance from the EAP and will establish an appropriate course of action to provide the opportunity to resolve the Eligible Employees’ personal and/or professional concerns.
  • To provide each Organization employee and/or his or her immediate family members with prepaid access for up to a fixed number sessions with a state licensed or certified Master’s level health professional who is professional, experienced, skilled and knowledgeable and uniquely in evidenced-based therapies.  What session model do you desire?
  • To provide routine appointments will be offered within 5 business days with a qualified licensed counselor unless the caller’s preferences delay the process.  Penn Medicine EAP will offer assistance, as needed, until an appointment is scheduled.
  • To provide access to the depth and breadth of the entire Penn network available to ensure connectivity to the right care at the right time.  Penn Medicine maintains a network of affiliated providers who are also available to meet client preferences, specializations which may be required, or to provide for child related (under 18) mental health care for which short-term counseling may not be appropriate. Following the intake, the Organization Covered Eligible Employee will be referred to a Licensed Counselor in their geographical area.  Face-to-face and/or virtual telehealth services are available to all Eligible Employees, spouse and dependents under the age of 26.  Penn Medicine EAP will provide referral to qualified professional resources for specialized counseling or rehabilitation needs including, but not limited to, anger management, treatment for substance abuse, psychological issues, crisis management, domestic violence, and workplace violence.  Penn Medicine EAP has providers who facilitate trainings, specialize in the assessment and treatment of chemical dependency and other maladaptive behaviors.  For referrals beyond the sessions model or for escalated levels of care, Penn Medicine can refer internally to our:  Center for the Treatments and Study of Anxiety, Outpatient Psychiatry Center, Center for Cognitive Therapy, Hall Mercer Adult Behavioral Health Services, Recovery at Penn Medicine, TEAM Clinic and the Penn Center for Women’s Behavioral Wellness.
  • To provide emergency counseling and crisis intervention services are available twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, three hundred sixty-five (365) days per year, through the twenty-four (24) hour toll-free EAP line.  In cases where there is a life-threatening emergency, on-call staff assist and stay with the caller through all the steps necessary to establish safety and to procure appropriate help. Penn Medicine EAP clinicians are highly experienced with various clinical situations and can support connection to emergent or higher levels of care as needed.

Utilization Reporting

  • To provide organization with ongoing analysis of the effectiveness of the EAP/WLB Services by providing Quarterly Reports and an Annual Report.   All reports include only de-identified and aggregated data and statistics to protect the confidentiality of the individuals utilizing EAP/WLB Services.  

Work/Life Services

To provide access to a comprehensive network of Licensed Counselors who are authorized to provide EAP/Work Life Balance (WLB) Services in the state in which they practice. Counselors are credentialed with Penn Medicine EAP. All Licensed Counselors are required to maintain professional licenses, accreditation, and/or certification within the state in which their services are provided.   Licensed Counselors are available for face-to-face counseling or via telehealth.  Penn Medicine EAP credentials all new providers and re-credentials providers on a recurrent basis.  Final approval is made via the Penn Medicine EAP Credentialing Committee.  Providers are re-credentialed every two years.  Penn Medicine is committed to the delivery of evidenced-based practices in clinical care and provides ongoing case consultations and opportunities for training and clinical support to our clinicians.  These include motivational interviewing, short-term dynamic psychotherapy, behavioral activation, and cognitive behavioral therapy, among others.


Employee Orientations

To provide employee orientations to give employees an understanding of the Penn Medicine EAP program and how it benefits them.  Our orientations are designed to familiarize and acquaint employees with the following information:  Purpose of the Employee Assistance Program and Work-Life Services Program, Available services, Confidentiality of the program, Expertise of the clinical and professional staff, Accessing the program and scheduling an appointment,  Eligibility.  Orientations are also used to build trust and respect for our services.  We emphasize the program’s easy access to professional, caring counselors for strictly confidential assistance regarding any kind of personal problem.


Promoting the program

To assist assist in the development, availability and use of promotional materials and activities to encourage the use of the program.  Penn Medicine EAP provides posters, brochures, wallet cards, monthly newsletters, health fairs, wellness programs and flyers.  Penn Medicine EAP has gained a solid understanding of the best ways to communicate and maintain high visibility to Organization’s employees and ingrain EAP in the mainstream of Organization’s workplace culture.


Supporting Structured Solutions

To assist organization’s supervisors and management by providing a range of structured solutions to address, anticipate and deliver solutions to mitigate personal concerns of employees that may affect their job performance.  In keeping with Penn Medicine EAP’s longstanding philosophy we will partner with Organization such that our services match the needs of the organization.
Critical IncidentsTo provide critical incident response and up to 35 hours of critical incident debriefing services in the event of a disaster involving Organization employees, including on-site group and/or individual counseling at no charge to Organization.  A critical incident is any situation that causes a work group to experience strong reactions that have the potential to interfere with present or future productivity. These could range from circumstances such as an employee death or company downsizing.  To provide coordination of psychiatric evaluations for organization, and can arrange psychiatric evaluations through the ambulatory programs of Penn Psychiatry. These referrals have often been preceded by numerous management consultations to clarify the situation, expedite the process, ensure safety for the Organization workplace, and secure appropriate clinical resources for the employee.  g, to violence in the workplace, to a terrorist attack.  Penn Medicine EAP is prepared to provide a comprehensive range of services to address such issues.  A critical incident consultation will be conducted to determine which services are appropriate.  Penn Medicine EAP has provided highly responsive levels of CIR’s throughout our longstanding relationship. Our track record for this service with Organization is exemplary – we treat these situations with all due seriousness, because we recognize how vital these services have been. As an EAP program we have provided support to first responders including those from Organization.


Telehealth

To provide EAP / Work-Life topics from the Penn Medicine EAP Workshop Catalog.  Penn Medicine EAP offers an unparalleled training program for employees and managers.  Over the years we have worked with various Organization training coordinators to present training to your population.  These trainings can be done in-person or virtually. Training is something all organizations set out to do but can have a hard time prioritizing among the day-to-day work. Penn Medicine EAP offers a wide array of courses designed to improve people’s personal and professional lives. By taking full advantage of the EAP program, your employees will benefit in many ways – becoming more productive, happy and focused in their daily lives.


Substance Abuse Program

To provide access to EAP clinicians who are certified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP) for the US Department of Transportation (DOT). Our Substance Abuse Professionals evaluate employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare. The SAP evaluation adheres to all applicable DOT regulations and requirements.


Psychiatric Evaluation

To provide coordination of psychiatric evaluations for organization, and can arrange psychiatric evaluations through the ambulatory programs of Penn Psychiatry. These referrals have often been preceded by numerous management consultations to clarify the situation, expedite the process, ensure safety for the Organization workplace, and secure appropriate clinical resources for the employee.  


Health / Benefit Fairs

To participate in Health / Benefits Fairs.  As part of the implementation process to promote the EAPs visibility, Penn Medicine EAP is always available to participate in health and benefit fairs, as we did this past year.  Penn Medicine EAP will make arrangements to have a representative attend Organization’s health benefit fairs either in person or virtually as we participated in just this year.

To provide access to MyLifeExpert, our work/life portal that assists employees in managing work-related stress and achieving a healthier work-life balance through MyLifeExpert. Our Website

To provide access to our website.  Employees can click on the Employees drop down box and select Overview.  The employee is presented with two paths. There is always a pathway to MyLifeExpert, our Work Life portal where they can find many self-help wellness tools.  But if they would like to speak with an EAP Clinician, they will be brought to a screen to help them learn more about the EAP.   Here too there are two paths.  One to MyLifeExpert and the other to learn more about counseling.  They are then presented with two paths, one to MyLifeExpert, the other to schedule their first session.  The employee can either call us at (888) 321-4433 or complete an online intake form.  Our Operations Specialists will follow up with employee to schedule the appointment.
