Summer Internship Program
The summer internship program is an intensive 8-week experience as an introduction to different career opportunities in oncology, specializing in melanoma and other skin cancers. The goal of the program is to expand the pipeline of students interested in pursuing a career in biomedical sciences. The program is currently being offered to undergraduate students at our partnering institution, Randolph-Macon College. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented communities to apply including first-generation college students, women, and people of color.
Participants of the program can expect the following:
- orientation into melanoma (prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship)
- rotation in a research lab
- clinic shadowing with providers (physicians, NPs, PAs, RNs, and others)
- human biobanking research
- clinical data entry and management
- clinical trials research
- attending research & clinical conferences and seminars
Students will have the opportunity to meet with a multidisciplinary group of faculty and staff members to gain exposure to various career paths in basic science and clinical/translational medicine. The internship culminates in a presentation by each intern on a topic of their choice.
