Exercise Services

The CHPS PPMC Mutch Unit offers consultation and basic mobility and frailty testing services.

It is staffed by a certified exercise physiologist who can help design exercise training protocols and administer them to clinical research study participants. Consultations to assist with design of exercise intervention protocols, including remote exercise guidance, are available.

  • Grip Strength: JAMAR Hand Dynamometer
  • SPPB (Short Physical Performance Battery)
  • TUG (Time up and Go)
  • Gait speed Walk Tests: 3-meter, 4-meter
  • Physical Activity Monitoring - Actigraph Service **
  • 6 Minute Walk Test (6MWT) *
  • Range of Motion / Flexibility testing
  • Exercise Coaching (virtual & in-person)
  • Resistance Band Instructions

* 6MWT: Hall length is 20 meters (not 30 as per ATS guidelines)

** Actigraph:

    • Device - xGT3X-BT (3 Axis MEMS Accelerometer)
    • Software: Actilife
    • Initialize: Sample rate (30-100 Hz), waist or wrist, sleep
    • Download: Epoch (seconds)
