With an aim to understand and treat inherited retinal diseases, CHRD investigators have performed world-class scientific research over the last four decades. Key areas of research include pioneering studies seeking mechanisms and sites of disease using expertise in ophthalmology, molecular biology, bioengineering and mathematics. Extensive work has been done in patients as well as animal models. Better understanding of disease mechanisms has opened the door for successful results towards treatments including gene therapies, gene editing and antisense oligonucleotides.
