Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship

This two-year fellowship is geared towards dermatologists who have recently completed their residency and want to obtain advanced clinical research skills that will help them develop as independent clinical scientists. Funding is competitive (usually obtained from NIH training grants and/or National Psoriasis Foundation fellowship grants). Therefore, applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Gelfand one year ahead of the start date, which is typically July 1. Most post-doctoral fellows will also matriculate in the Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology program (applications are generally due in the Fall for a July 1 start). Post-Doctoral Skin of Color Fellowship

This one-year fellowship is designed for investigators that have completed a doctorate degree or equivalent and are seeking to be involved in research projects focusing on issues related to skin of color. Funding is provided by the Penn Medicine’s Department of Dermatology.

Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowship

This one-year fellowship is geared towards full-time medical students looking to dedicate one year to training in clinical research. Fellows typically participate by taking a year out of medical school between 3rd and 4th year and typically have at least basic familiarity with clinical research methods and statistical analysis. Funding is competitive (usually obtained by NIH training grants). Therefore, applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Gelfand one year ahead of the start date, which is typically July 1. Pre-Doctoral Skin of Color Fellowship

This one-year fellowship is designed for rising 4th year medical students looking to dedicate one year to training in clinical research, focusing on the subspecialty of skin of color. Funding is provided by Penn Medicine’s Department of Dermatology.

Pre-Doctoral ECuRE Fellowship

This summer fellowship is geared towards high school, undergrad, and medical students looking to dedicate a summer to Early Cutaneous Research Experiences (ECuRE). Funding is provided by Penn Medicine’s Department of Dermatology. Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Gelfand about potential projects.

Pre-Doctoral Summer Fellowship

This summer fellowship is geared towards full-time medical students looking to dedicate a summer to training in clinical research. Fellows participate between their 1st and 2nd year of medical school under the sponsorship of a Penn faculty mentor who is a senior in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB) or is an associate scholar. Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Gelfand about potential projects.

IPC International Fellowship

This one-year fellowship is geared towards dermatologists who are within 5 years of completion of training OR are dermatologists who are currently in training (e.g. Fellow, Resident, etc.). In addition, applicants should have a special interest in psoriasis. Through this program, the International Psoriasis Council (IPC) aims to connect young dermatologists with experts in the field across the world, including Dr. Joel M. Gelfand. His lab has hosted IPC Fellows in the past, including Dr. Juul van den ReekDr. Álvaro González-Cantero and Dr. Filip Rob. Dr. Gelfand is currently hosting Dr. Netsanet Azene Gebeyehu and looks forward to hosting and mentoring future dermatology and psoriasis experts for years to come. A full list of visiting scholars can be found in the Team tab.
