GHHS Inducted Class of 2024
The purpose of GHHS is to recognize those students who exemplify humanistic attributes within medicine. Each year up to 15% of the third-year class can be elected for this honor based on nomination by their peers.

Hi, I’m Avi Dravid and I am one of the Co-Presidents of GHHS. I am from the Chicago suburbs and graduated from Northwestern University in 2019, majoring in biology and political science. I have long been interested in the provision of medical care in complex humanitarian emergencies, exploring this area as a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics from 2019-2020. Prior to medical school, I also worked for a coalition of community health centers in Southern California. At PSOM, I have been involved with the Center for Surgical Health as an Ortho Lead Patient Navigator, the Penn Global Surgery Group, the Leo Leung Orthopaedic Surgical Society, and the Philadelphia Human Rights Clinic, among other organizations. I am excited to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery, focusing on the delivery of musculoskeletal care in resource-constrained and crisis-affected environments.

My name is Lancelot, and I'm one of the co-presidents of GHHS at the Perelman School of Medicine. I grew up in Princeton, NJ, before moving to England, where I completed high school. I graduated from Cornell University in 2020, double majoring in chemistry and biological sciences. I'm currently pursuing a master of science in translational research in the Department of Rhinology, and I'm interested in pursuing a career in otorhinolaryngology. Throughout medical school, I have been involved with University City Hospitality Coalition and the Center for Surgical Health, where I have helped underserved patients access care. Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, listening to live music, and training Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

My name is Tyler (he/him), and I grew up in Old Lyme, CT. I graduated from Duke University in 2020, and I worked in health services research for a year at Duke before coming to Penn for medical school. I'm interested in internal medicine with a focus on community advocacy and health justice. Here, I've been involved with the Homeless Outreach Project and the Center for Health Justice. Outside of school, I love to dance, eat, watch movies, go outdoors, and spend time with friends and family.

Alexandria Adigun
Alexandria Adigun is a 4th year MD/PhD candidate in the department of Developmental, Stem Cell, and regenerative biology. She is originally from Houston, TX and graduated from Howard University in 2021. Alexandria is passionate about early exposure to medical and STEM fields and serves as of the GI coordinators for the pipeline program through the medical school in collaboration with the medical center. In her free time she enjoys travelling, yoga, and baking new recipes.

Hi, my name is Ashhad (pronounced ush-hud) and I grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. At PSOM, I co-led the Strecker Psychiatry Interest Group, Students for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (SIDE), and founded an elective course titled, Equity in Mental Health Care: Considerations Across Cultures and Marginalized Populations, focused on providing students with critical skills needed to identify and address inequities in mental health care. I aspire to carry the same spirit of leadership and service into Psychiatry, where I hope to focus on efforts to make the field more equitable and culturally responsive. Outside of this, I enjoy singing and exploring new eateries in the city with friends.

Hi everyone, my name is Avanti (she/her). I grew up in Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee for undergrad. After that, I spent a year living in India doing health economics research and two years as a consultant for the Center for Healthcare Innovation at Penn Medicine. At PSOM, I've had the opportunity to help lead the Urology Interest Group, SAMoSA, and the annual PennHealthX conference. This fall, I am applying to Urology, hoping to eventually incorporate my interests in innovation and advocacy into a fulfilling surgical career. This upcoming year, I am determined to prioritize travel and spending time with friends and family before beginning residency.

Hi, my name is Chandler Floyd (he/him)! I am originally from Nashville, TN and went to Harvard College for undergrad where I studied Molecular & Cellular Biology and Economics. I am going into pediatrics, and I am particularly interested in addressing racial health disparities. Outside of medicine, I love to spend time outdoors, particularly running, cycling, and hiking.

I’m Daksh (he/him) and I grew up in New Delhi, India, before coming to the Bay Area for high school. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2021 where I studied biological sciences. At Penn, I chose to pursue neurosurgery and have been greatly involved in mentorship across all levels in the medical school and the college. I deeply care about supporting the community and sharing my lessons with the juniors. Outside of medicine, I like to workout, try new restaurants, travel, and spend time with loved ones.

My name is David (he/him) and I am originally from Bethesda, Maryland. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland in 2021 with dual degrees in biochemistry and biology. In medical school, I have conducted research in cardiothoracic surgery, served as the Curriculum Representative for my class, and led the Independent Student Analysis for the school’s LCME reaccreditation process. I have also been involved with medical education as a head teaching assistant for the first-year Anatomy course and writer for “The Cutting Edge” blog. I am looking forward to a career in academic surgery.

Hi, I’m Elizabeth (she/her)! I grew up in the Poconos and went to Vassar College for undergrad. After graduating, I worked as a Community Health Facilitator with Peace Corps in Peru and then at an FQHC as a Case Manager for unaccompanied minors. At Penn, I’ve continued working in community health with Puentes de Salud, Philadelphia Human Rights Clinic, and Prevention Point. I am also working to better integrate climate into medical curriculum and reduce waste production in the hospital system. I am interested in primary care, infectious disease, and addiction medicine. Outside of medicine, I enjoy exploring Philly, knitting, long podcast walks, and hanging out with her friends and cat.

Hi, I’m Emily (she/her)! I grew up in Rhode Island before studying anthropology and Latin American studies at Washington University in St. Louis. I then researched maternal healthcare systems for displaced indigenous women in Medellín, Colombia as a Fulbright scholar and worked as an AmeriCorps member at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. I am excited to apply into Ob/Gyn and continue advocating for equitable and accessible reproductive healthcare. This year, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family, partner, and friends. -

Helene Chesnais is an MS4 at Perelman who will pursue a residency in Neurology at NYU. She studied Neuroscience during her undergraduate studies at UPenn. Her interests also include medical education and global health, and she completed research on pharmacological aids to recovery after stroke. -

Hi everyone! My name is Heta Patel (she/her/hers), and I graduated from Penn in 2021 with a major in Health and Societies and a minor in Hispanic Studies. I have a passion for community health and volunteer at several clinics from UCC, Covenant House to Puentes de Salud. I am also involved in health advocacy efforts through the AMA and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. I hope to continue to incorporate the medical humanities, medical education, and quality improvement in my future career. In my free time, I enjoy writing, collecting vinyl records, and exploring new restaurants. I am excited to pursue a residency in Internal Medicine and later a fellowship in hematology/oncology or rheumatology!

I am from New York and graduated from Johns Hopkins University with majors in Molecular & Cellular Biology and Medicine, Science, & the Humanities, with a minor in history. I am planning on applying into Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery this coming fall. My professional interests include pediatric plastic surgery, patient-reported outcomes, and global health.

Jessica Campanile
Jessica Campanile
Jessica Campanile (she/her) is originally from New Jersey and attended Dartmouth College, where she studied linguistics, medical anthropology, and human-centered design. At the Perelman School of Medicine, Jessica pursued her passions for health equity and medical education. She is a founder and president of Access Penn Med, PSOM's group for medical students with disabilities, and created the Disability Health Equity and Advocacy elective to educate students and get them involved in the Philadelphia disability community. She was also co-president of the Student Curriculum Council and the Medical Education Club. While at Penn, Jessica has served in national leadership positions, including Associate Director of Medical Students with Disability and Chronic Illness (MSDCI) and as the Perelman School of Medicine’s representative to the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Jessica is excited to continue her training here at Penn and CHOP in the Internal Medicine - Pediatrics program. Her academic interests include climate health, complex and critical care, pre-hospital and wilderness medicine, and point-of-care ultrasound.

Lev Krasnovsky graduated Cornell University in 2021, majoring in Biology with a minor in Nutrition. At the Perelman School of Medicine, he has been heavily involved with the culinary medicine elective, conducting a comprehensive curricular redesign and expanding the community engagement aspect of the course. He has also been involved with gastroenterology and medical education research through his 4 years of medical school. His other experiences include acting and directing in Spoof, writing for Apenndx magazine, and leading the annual PennTalks teaching competition.

I studied Neuroscience and History of Science at Vanderbilt University and completed a service year with AmeriCorps prior to beginning medical school. I am passionate about harm reduction, street medicine, and healthcare grounded in principles of service, community, and justice. My intentions for this year are to grow in my independence and confidence as a provider and chip away at my ever-growing booklist.

I’m currently an MD/PhD student, with my PhD research focused on breast cancer health disparities. I’m planning to apply into plastic and reconstructive surgery residency next year. In my free time, I love running along the Schuylkill, traveling, and volunteering at my church!

Satvika Kumar (she/her) is an MD/MBA student at the University of Pennsylvania, driven by a commitment to patient-centered care and health system innovation. At Penn, she conducts research in trauma surgery and health systems, with a focus on improving access to acute and critical care for underserved populations. She also led PennHealthX’s inaugural Health Equity Symposium, convening leaders across medicine, policy, and industry to explore solutions for addressing disparities in care delivery. Satvika is honored to be part of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and looks forward to collaborating with peers dedicated to compassionate, humanistic care and meaningful advocacy for patients.

I took a gap year after college and worked as a medical assistant before coming to Penn for med school. My name is Shanzay and I’m from the DC area. Between undergrad at Columbia, medical school at Penn, and now Internal Medicine residency at MGH, I will have spent most of my life on the Amtrak Northeast Regional. After years of immunology research, I made a hard pivot to Cardiology, but we’ll see where life takes me! I’m interested in history, exploring new cultures, and using cuisine as a means of building community. When I’m not in scrubs, I’m interested in fashion, coffee shops, and facetiming my friends and family.

My name is Yvonne (she/her) and I grew up in Shenzhen, China. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021 and stayed here for medical school. I'm going into diagnostic radiology with a focus in global health and artificial intelligence research. During my time here, I pursued an Area of Concentration certificate in clinical informatics and am involved with the Global Health Interest Group/the Center of Global Health. Outside of school, I enjoy sushi making, watching Air Crash Investigation, running, and spending time with friends and family.
