Penn Medicine Pair Honored by American Society for Microbiology

Two Penn Medicine researchers received awards from the American Society for Microbiology for 2025. Susan Weiss, PhD, of Microbiology, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society for Microbiology for dedicating more than 40 years of research to the biology and pathogenesis of coronaviruses. And César de la Fuente, PhD, Presidential Assistant Professor in Psychiatry, Microbiology, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Bioengineering, received the Award for Early Career Basic Research for his efforts to combine the power of machines and biology to help prevent, detect, and treat infectious diseases.
