Two Pennsylvania Women Connected by Uterine Transplant Meet for First Time

A York County woman, Emma Dolzal, who was born without a uterus, became a mother through a uterine transplant from Sara Leister, a nurse at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. The two women met for the first time Tuesday, celebrating baby Olivia, the eighth child born via Penn Medicine’s uterine transplant program, which has now moved beyond the clinical trial phase to become available to more patients. “To be able to create more amazing moms is really something special for me,” said Kathleen O’Neill, MD, MTR, an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and program director of the uterine transplant program.
