Alumni

A recent survey of biomedical graduate students trained in pharmacology indicate a large proportion are engaged in research intensive careers.  Of interest, the percentage of alumni with careers in research (Industry/ Biotech/ Private/ Academia) were similar regardless of the student being appointed to the T32. However, a greater percentage of students who were appointed to the T32 found themselves working in consulting, teaching, technology transfer and research in government compared to students who were not appointed. In the BGS Pharmacology Alumni Survey Results (31 responders) Pie Chart of Trainee Careers, it includes the breakdown of the following:

  • 42% of trainees have careers in Research (Industry/Biotech/Private),
  • 29% in Academia Research,
  • 7% in Teaching (Post-secondary),
  • 7% in Commercialization,
  • 3% in Research (Government),
  • 3% in Communication (Medical/Science Writing, Journalism, Publishing),
  • 3% in Consulting,
  • 3% in Policy,
  • 3% in Medical Affairs
