Current Projects

  1. R01AG070944 “Post-acute Care Outcomes of Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias”
    • This grant evaluates the outcomes of post-acute care in skilled nursing facilities for patients with dementia. This mixed methods study uses Medicare claims to characterize physician care organizations and outcomes for patients with dementia admitted to nursing homes. The second phase of the study consists of qualitative interviews with staff at high and low-performing facilities with respect to dementia outcomes.
  2. R01AG066841 - 01A1 “The Role of Skilled Nursing Facility Specialists in Post-acute Care Outcomes”
    • This grant evaluates the impact of physicians who specialize in skilled nursing facility care (i.e., SNFists) on post-acute care outcomes of older adults admitted to SNFs including functional improvement and healthcare utilization. The relationship between physician specialization in SNF-based care and patient outcomes is examined in the context of value-based purchasing arrangements (ACOs and bundled payments).
  3. RF1AG085419 “Advanced Provider Care Models and Health Outcomes of Nursing Home Residents with Dementia”
    • The aim of this project is to characterize the NH clinician workforce – primarily composed of NPs and physicians - that provides general medical care to NH residents with ADRD and measure the outcomes of NH residents with ADRD under different NH clinician care models. Our focus is on co-management between physicians and advanced practitioners who see patients in nursing homes. Our overarching goal is to improve the quality of care for NH residents with ADRD by evaluating and disseminating information on high-performing NH clinician care models.
