Cores

Administrative Core 

Leader/Co-Leader: Alice Chen-Plotkin/Kathy Jedrziewski

  • Support the Research Projects and other Cores by overseeing budgets and progress reports, organizing internal investigator meetings, and conducting review of the PO1 Center by an External Advisory Committee.

  • Increase the impact of the PO1 Center by fostering dissemination of research findings, and sharing human biosamples, human biosample-derived aSyn strains, and data with outside investigators (in collaboration with the Resource and Data Cores).

  •  Leverage the interdisciplinary nature of the PO1 Center to develop translational researchers.

Clinical Core

Leader: Dan Weintraub

  • Recruit and evaluate LBD patients and controls for Project I and III, with a high rate of autopsy recruitment, providing samples for all Projects.

  • Coordinate data collection from participants to harmonize with NINDS Common Data Elements (CDEs) and components of the NACC DLB assessment protocols. Data is stored in the Integrated Neurodegenerative Disease Database (INDD), which is maintained by the Data Management and Statistics Core

 

Resource Core 

Leader: Edward Lee

Co-Leaders: Vivianna Van Deerlin (DNA), Alice Chen-Plotkin (Biofluids), Kelvin Luk (synuclein fibrils)

  • Manage patient-derived brain, DNA, and biofluid samples for use in all Projects, as well as for sharing to outside investigators through a Biospecimen Request Access Committee (BRAC).

  • Produce and maintain aSyn PFFs as well as aSyn strains amplified from human brain material in Project II. Provide these aSyn resources to Projects and to outside investigators, as requested through the BRAC.

Data Core

Leader: Sharon Xie

  • Provide analytical and statistical support for all projects.

  • Coordinate sharing of INDD data with outside investigators.

  • Manage the Integrated Neurodegenerative Disease Database (INDD), which houses clinical, genetic, biomarker data generated by all projects and cores.
