Awarded annually, the Core Director Award serves to honor the exemplary leadership and dedication of our core directors, whose facilities serve as an integral catalyst for PSOM’s groundbreaking research.
2023 Awardees
We are delighted to announce that, following a review by a sub-group of the Cores Committee, Dr. Derek Jones and Tony Secreto, MRA, have been selected as the winners of our 2023 Core Director Awards.
Dr. Derek Jones serves as Senior Technical Director of the Penn Cytomics & Cell Sorting Shared Resource Laboratory. The core has thrived under his leadership – recently expanding to its 11th satellite facility, a high-dimensional spectral analysis lab at the Penn Institute for RNA Innovation. He is at the forefront of the core’s training and educational programs, and provides investigators with knowledge of cutting edge techniques. Dr. Jones’ unwavering commitment to innovation ensure that our community receives services and support of the highest standard.
Tony Secreto, MRA, serves as the Associate Director of the Stem Cell Xenograft Core Facility. Tony is known for his proactive approach, constantly planning for the future by strategizing equipment and facility upgrades to ensure investigators receive top-notch services. His meticulous attention to detail and rigorous training protocols set high standards in the core, resulting in reduced infection rates and an impressively low occurrence of xenogenic graft-versus-host disease. Tony’s dedication and forward-thinking contributions make him an invaluable asset to the scientific community at Penn.
We are honored to recognize the tremendous accomplishments of Dr. Jones and Tony as Core Facility Directors and are grateful for their continued efforts to achieve excellence as part of our PSOM Biomedical Research Core Facility Community.
