Biobank and Database Resources

researcher pipetting in labThe TMMC has developed one of the largest biobanks for melanoma patient samples in the world. Patients provide written informed consent on an IRB approved tissue collection protocol (UPCC 08607), which allow us to store a piece of resected tumor or collect blood for research purposes. These clinically annotated specimens are then available for the melanoma research community upon request. Each request for patient tissue, blood, or clinical data is reviewed by a panel of researchers to ensure this precious resource will be used effectively, and an impact can be made. Over the years, this biobank has provided critical data in over 100 peer-reviewed publications. Development and maintenance of the biobank is supported mostly by philanthropy.
