Anna Meadows, Professor Emerita of Pediatrics, was recognized by a lecture given in her honor followed by a party with friends and family. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is celebrating the researcher's groundbreaking 38-year career.
Anna Meadows was 31 and a mother of three when she wrote to the dean of Harvard Medical School about her dream to become a doctor. His response: Stay home with the kids. Happily for the kids - the thousands whom she helped fight cancer and the many more whose battles were eased by her work - Meadows wasn't swayed.
