Taste Cells of the Gut and Endocrine Cells of the Tongue

luncheon

Dr. Robert Margolskee is a Member of the Monell Chemical Senses Center.

Margolskee's research focus has been on the molecular mechanisms of taste transduction, utilizing molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, electrophysiology and transgenesis to study the mechanisms of signal transduction in mammalian taste cells. Much of his current work is focused on structural studies of sweet-responsive taste receptors pertinent to the mechanisms of action of natural and artificial sweeteners. He has recently extended his work to study gastrointestinal chemosensation, or how the gut "tastes" nutrients.

The luncheon is at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, in the Lenape Room of the University Club.
