Dr. Ken Margulies is a Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Margulies is a clinician-scientist whose research focuses on load-induced myocardial remodeling and mechanisms of myocardial failure and recovery.  His research inquiries employ human heart tissues, engineered myocardial models and early phase clinical research. He is the Director of research and training within Penn’s heart failure and transplant program.  Dr. Margulies has been the Director of the Penn CCRU since its founding in 2015.  He is active in leadership roles within the Heart Failure Society of America and the American Heart Association. Dr. Margulies receives research funding from the National Institutes of Health and several commercial entities developing new therapeutics and diagnostics for heart failure.

Tiffany has worked in clinical research at UPenn for 18 years and currently oversees and assists in all research being conducted in the Division of Cardiology, which includes 7 subdivisions of research (heart failure, electrophysiology, interventional, etc.)  She supports the CCRU manager with orientation and onboarding of all new research staff, develops trainings for ongoing education of existing staff, supervises a team of research staff available for use among the Cardiology division, mentors staff and junior faculty in research administration, manages study start-up and implementation for a growing portfolio of investigator initiated single and multi-center studies, and provides grant writing & budgeting support.

As a former IRB member and Certified IRB Professional (CIP), Kim specializes in regulatory submissions and compliance. Kim has almost 20 years of experience in clinical research here at UPenn and FoxChase Cancer Center. She currently is the CCRU manager and provides orientation and onboarding of all new research staff, develops trainings for ongoing education of existing staff, supervises a team of research staff available for use among the Cardiology division, mentors staff and junior faculty in regulatory matters, oversees the CCRU processing lab and provides education to research staff in the division.

Kara has three years of experience working in clinical research, with two of those years specializing in cardiovascular clinical research. Prior to joining the CCRU in March 2021, Kara graduated with a Health Sciences degree from The Ohio State University where she also worked on the Dilated Cardiomyopathy Research Project. Currently, she works on several studies based in cardiology and electrophysiology, and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Regulatory Affairs from the University of Pennsylvania.

Michae graduated from Penn in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in health and societies with a concentration in healthcare markets and finance. Michae was a member of the women’s basketball team at Penn. Before joining the CCRU in June 2021, she worked as a hypospadias research assistant at CHOP, as well as, a kidney transplant research assistant. Michae hopes to acquire many skills during her time with the CCRU so that she can become a well-rounded physician.

Juwann is a clinical research coordinator. He has over two years of experience in clinical research related to cardiac electrophysiology. Before joining the CCRU in 2019, he earned a B.S. degree in cellular and molecular neuroscience from Temple University. He thoroughly enjoys working within the division of cardiovascular medicine, and is enthusiastic about future projects within the CCRU.
