2025 Balzan Prize Winners Include Penn Medicine’s Carl June

CAR T cell therapy pioneer Carl June, MD, the Richard W. Vague Professor in Immunotherapy, was among four winners of the 2025 Balzan Prizes announced Monday. June was recognized for his breakthrough work developing the personalized cellular therapy for cancer, which has given fresh hope to thousands of patients with blood cancers worldwide and holds promise for autoimmune diseases and other conditions.
