Siloxane-Enhanced Nanoparticles Chart a New Path in Precision mRNA Medicine

Michael J. Mitchell of the School of Engineering and Applied Science and colleagues have discovered how to direct lipid nanoparticles, the revolutionary molecules that delivered the COVID-19 vaccines, to target specific tissues and organs. With simple alterations to their chemical structure using silicon- and oxygen-based compounds, these particles could be used in protein replacement therapies, gene editing, and regenerative medicine.
