Grammarly for Education Pilot
Penn has partnered with Grammarly to create a pilot program for their “Grammarly for Education” product to explore and evaluate the tool and determine whether it is a good fit for the University. Pilot licenses are available today, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, for PSOM faculty, staff, and students.
What is Grammarly?
Grammarly is an AI-powered writing assistance tool that aims to improve users' writing quality, efficiency, and confidence. It works on many platforms and offers real-time feedback on various aspects of writing, such as grammatical errors, punctuation, usage of commonly confused words, and style elements, including tone, clarity, and suggestions for inclusive language. Grammarly also offers generative AI to generate or suggest content to aid text creation, brainstorm topics, and develop research plans and outlines. It also features additional support and functionality for academic writing and upholding academic integrity, such as plagiarism detection, AI, and academic (APA, MLA, and Chicago-style) citations, and automated reminder prompts that encourage users to honor institutional policies when using generative AI.
Who's eligible?
Grammarly pilot licenses are available to all full-time Penn faculty, staff, and students.
Due to HIPAA requirements, the use of Grammarly has been allowed for specific applications. More information can be found on the PSOM Grammarly website. Only Grammarly accounts provided by the University of Pennsylvania meet HIPAA requirements; personal accounts and accounts provided by other organizations do not.
What do I need to do?
Visit the Grammarly Pilot User Guide for instructions on how to get started, migrate your existing Grammarly account to Penn’s pilot (if applicable), and install and use Grammarly.
