Postdoctoral Training

We are committed to providing outstanding mentors for postdoctoral research, in an atmosphere of collegiality and intellectual exchange that guarantees broad exposure to the full spectrum of cell & developmental biology. In particular, our Department sponsors sets of research talks in both cell & developmental biology where postdoctoral fellows present their work to members of the full department.

Penn is a major research center and as such provides extensive exposure to all aspects of modern biomedical research through faculty research programs, courses offered by the Bio Medical Graduate Studies and the Biology graduate groups, visits from distinguished faculty from all over the world, and day-long retreats organized, for example, by the Penn Center for Developmental Biology, the Cancer Center, the Pennsylvania Muscle Institute, the Center for Research in Reproductive Biology and Women's Health, and the Fetal Surgery Unit at Children's Hospital.

Our department participates in the University-wide "Office of Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs" (http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/postdoc/), which provides information and seminars on career-based opportunities, in academia and the biotechnology industries, as well as for alternative biomedical-background careers in law, journalism, public health, ethics, teaching, etc.
