Zarina S. Ali, MD, MS, FAANS is Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery. Dr. Ali leads the Department of Neurosurgery’s mission and strategic initiatives regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism across the Department’s core missions of clinical care, research, and teaching. As the first woman neurosurgeon at Pennsylvania Hospital, she works with the Chair to recruit other women and under-represented students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff to Neurosurgery.  She leads the Neurosurgery Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program at Penn, which serves as a vehicle to deliver value-based care and reduce health disparities and inequities in neurosurgical care. Dr. Ali also serves a faculty co-advisor of the Penn Neuroscience Educational Pipeline Program to provide multi-tiered mentorship and education in Neurology and Neurosurgery to Sayre and West Philadelphia high school students.
