Grants to promote cultural diversity
Dear Faculty, Residents, APPs, and Staff,
We are excited to announce the award recipients for the Department of Emergency Medicine’s inaugural Small Grants Program: Advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Antiracism (IDEA). The goal of the program is to spur innovation, encourage new collaborations, and support people who are passionate about advancing IDEA within the department and/or our surrounding West and Southwest Philadelphia communities. The first round of funding was awarded to the following projects:
- “Utilizing Standardized Patient-based Simulations to Improve Health Equity and Cross-cultural Communication in the Emergency Department (SPHE-CC)”
- Project Lead: Kristyn Smith
- “Know My Name: Building a culture of respect in the PPMC ED”
- Project Lead: Hana Choy
- “Physician Track: Recruit Inner City African American Males to Pursue a Career as a Physician”
- Project Lead: Peter Sananman
Each of these projects reflect the department’s multifaceted approach and dedication to advancing IDEA and creating an emergency department where our team members, patients, and neighbors all feel welcomed. Thank you to our selection committee, including Nicole Thomas, Lily Marsh, Chidi Nwakanma, and Maria Wormley.
Please stay tuned for the opportunity to apply for a second round of funding this Spring.
Warmly,
