The meeting was called to order by Meadows at 12:05 pm and the minutes March 25 President’s report: Meadows reported that ballots hsve been sent out and that there are 30 days remaining. Nikoo said that 50 responses have been received so far. The spring trip is an architectural tour of the campus led by David Hollenberg; on May 21, at 11:00 am, meeting at the Benjamin Franklin statue. A group lunch is possible, but people will have to pay for their share. The was informed Council that the new Chair of Genetics is Dan Rader.


PASEF

MacGregor told Council that the retirement community talk was very well attended; approximately 70 people came. The next event is the lecture by Emily Duckworth; she is a psychologist who studies the parameters of success, especially associated with 'gri'. There are 38 spaces on the trolley car. Next week there will be a 'trolley car' tour of the murals in West Philadelphia followed by a lunch at the Belmont Mansion. PASEF is circulating a ballot in which Anita Summers is the president elect Spring program: Gary Gilliland will present the Spring Program , "Personalized Medicine" on April 22 at 4:00 pm in the BRB Auditorium.

Other Business

Myers announced that the memorial service for Nick Kefalides on April 18 was very well attended. She described a photograph of Nick and his wife that she would like to memorialize.. There was discussion regarding memorials for faculty members; Bloch suggested a symposium on Nick's work rather than a portrait. Baum suggested having a Grand Rounds each year named after him.

Meadows told the Committee that Baum had contacted Department chairs in order to increase ASEF's role. It was agreed that the Philadelphia Science Fair would be a great opportunity for activity. Paterson commented that there is a need for judges in the science fair. Paterson also pointed out that the Netter Center is very involved with activities in the Philadelphia schools. Salcido added that he is involved in many activities and he would like to acknowledge ASEF in them. Baum will canvass departments to investigate what ASEF can do for them. Nikoo will follow Brroennili's suggestions for the website. Goldfine suggested that we invite former Deans to the end of year party. Myers will send a specific invitation to them.

Discussion ensued concerning the retirement community talk. It was decided that every other year would be appropriate.

Myers reported that she had received a request for space requirements, since Penn Tower is to be demolished. Council questioned whether we would have much say in the new headquarters. However, Myers maintained that we need the area of the current space.
