Service Delivery Methods

Use of Alternative Service Delivery Sites and Methods

Center investigators are studying the use of the telephone and internet to provide addictions treatment to patients. These methods may be particularly effective as a means to provide ongoing continuing care to patients who have completed an initial phase of treatment, and to those who have barriers that preclude continued attendance at treatment clinics (e.g., health, childcare, employment, transportation issues). Center researchers are also conducting a study in which the telephone is used to deliver motivational interventions to patients who drop out of treatment very early. The Center is also conducting studies in which primary care practices are used to deliver addiction treatment, instead of standard addiction specialty care treatment programs.
