Commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, Juneteenth (June19th) is an important time for celebration, reflection, community-building, and engagement. Friday June 23rd from 1-3pm, please join us at the Penn Medicine/Wharton Wellness Summit: Community Health and Financial Literacy Celebration in of honor of Juneteenth 2023. This first ever event is being coordinated by Penn Neurology’s Inclusion Diversity Anti-Racism and Equity (IDARE) Program in partnership with the Wharton Business School and is sponsored by the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC), the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP) and the Office for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (OIDE) in the Perelman School of Medicine. The event, hosted at Saunders Park Greene | University Park District (3827 Powelton Street) provides an opportunity for Penn Medicine and Wharton to celebrate with its surrounding community and to engage community members on a range of important topics related to health and wellness, including financial wellbeing.
Tables at the fair will cover a variety of health topics, including but not limited to:
- Cognitive health, memory loss, and healthy cognitive aging
- Stroke and blood pressure control
- Sleep Disorders
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- CPR Training
- Parkinson’s disease
- Naloxone Training
- Mental Health
- A mobile unit providing vaccines and boosters
- The Shams Clinic in West Philadelphia will be available to sign up patients for clinic services and needs
- The Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Division of Disease Control (DDC) – will provide information on COVID-19, food access, housing/utility assistance, violence prevention, primary care health services and more.
Other resources, supports, and partners featured at the fair will focus on a range of wellness topics including financial health:
- Vanguard
- Chase Bank
- JP Morgan
- The Bizness Center will provide resources related to employment, career development, etc.
- Penn Farm
- Nutrition Unlimited
- Philabundance – will provide prepared meals and fresh produce for participants to take home
- Books donated by CHOP, Reach and Read, and Penn Libraries will be given away, and there will be bookmaking activities (Penn Libraries)
- Pride Table
We have received an abundance of interest in volunteering though PennCares and have over 50 volunteers signed up for the event.
Finally—and importantly—the event will be fun, with live music, food, bouncy castles for kids, face painting, and more!
