LDI: Sandy Schwartz Memorial Grand Rounds Eyes Clinical Impact of AI

The second annual J. Sanford “Sandy” Schwartz Memorial Grand Rounds event on June 8 was certainly in keeping with the kind of generational transmission the late Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI) Senior Fellow and Perelman School of Medicine professor was known for. The event’s speaker was LDI Senior fellow Gary Weissman, MD, MSHP, a former Schwartz mentee. Weissman’s presentation, in turn, spotlighted the recent work of three of his own mentees who are engaged in various health equity investigations involving artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) methods.

The gathering honored the memory and five decades of work of the late Schwartz, a highly respected and beloved Professor of Medicine and Health Care Management at the Perelman School of Medicine and The Wharton School. Schwartz, a former LDI Executive Director (1989-1998), died in 2021.
