The fourth annual Master's Student Colloquium will be held at the Smilow Center for Translational Research on April 27, 2026. This event recognizes the achievements of Master’s students in the Perelman School of Medicine.
Agenda:
- 1:00-1:15 - Dr. Emma Meagher, Associate Dean for Master's & Certificate programs, will give opening remarks and present Student Poster Awards and PSOM MaC Excellence in Teaching Awards.
- 1:15-1:45 - Fireside chat with keynote speaker, Dr. Paul Offit
- 1:45-3:30 - Poster presentation session & networking.
Keynote Speaker Paul Offit, MD
Paul A. Offit, MD is the Director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as well as the Maurice R. Hilleman Professor of Vaccinology and a Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Offit previously served as a voting member on the FDA’s Vaccine Advisory Committee and on the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices to the CDC. He is also the co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq, recommended for universal use in infants by the CDC in 2006 and by the WHO in 2013. This vaccine was estimated recently to save about 165,000 lives a year. He is also the author of eleven books written for the public about science, medicine, and vaccines.
Intent to Participate - Poster Session
PSOM Master's students are encouraged to participate in this poster session to showcase their work and network with other students and faculty. You may share a body of work undertaken during your Master's program, inclusive of your capstone, thesis, or other scholarly activity. The work may be in progress or finalized, and it may have already been presented and/or published, or about to be presented elsewhere.
Submit your abstract via the intent to participate form by March 29, 2026. Specifications for poster design and guidelines for uploading and printing will be sent to accepted participants.

Poster Session Eligibility: Master's students in the terminal year of their program may participate.
Intent to Participate Form Deadline: Sunday, March 29, 2026 (11:59 PM EST)
Poster Design Deadline: Monday, April 20, 2026 (11:59 PM EST). Those who complete the intent to participate form will receive guidelines about preparing your poster for display and uploading poster designs to Box.
Teaching Award
The 2026 MaC Excellence in Teaching award winner will be announced at the Master's Student Colloquium!
High quality teaching is a cornerstone of the educational experience for students enrolled at the Perelman School of Medicine. As such, the Master’s and Certificate Programs will honor teaching faculty through annual teaching awards, specifically recognizing innovative assessment, effective communication, and impactful content delivery.
Submit your Nomination
Nominees should demonstrate teaching techniques that inspire students to learn the course content and apply it to their careers. They will show enthusiasm for teaching and learning through:
- Innovative Assessment
- Assesses student effort in authentic modalities, providing opportunities for real-world application.
- Assesses student effort creatively in either formative or summative approaches.
- Effective Communication
- Goes above and beyond to be available to students and provide timely, useful feedback to students which enhances their learning.
- Uses a diversity of instructional methods to effectively communicate challenging topics.
- Content Delivery
- Creates a safe, effective, and engaging classroom experience.
- Keeps their course relevant with current topics and future directions.
