What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that can help individuals, couples, children, and families understand and resolve problems, modify behavior, and make positive changes in their lives. There are several types of psychotherapy that involve different approaches, techniques and interventions.

At times, a combination of different psychotherapy approaches may be helpful depending on the needs of the individual. In some cases, a combination of psychotherapy with medication may be more effective. Care can include both brief, short-term treatment, as well as long-term psychotherapy, where the goal is to understand the situation in an intensive and exploratory way.

For people trying to get through the pain of divorce, job loss, physical illness or other emotional problems, the staff of the Behavioral Health Outpatient Center can provide a fresh perspective and offer practical approaches to better enable individuals to take control of the situations that have had a negative impact on their lives.
